Alumni and their affiliate Hartzell Old Basketballers association (HOBA) donated books and sporting equipment worth an estimated USD$14,000.00 to Hartzell High School on 30 April 2021.

On the morning of Saturday the 6^th of April 2019, a fire broke out in the junior block of Hartzell High School in Mutare, Zimbabwe, destroying buildings, books and equipment of great value.

The gutted block housed eight classrooms, two specialist rooms — for Textile Technology and Design, and Food Technology and Design programs. The deputy headmaster’s office and the storage room that housed all of the school’s textbooks was also reduced to ash and rubble.

Alumni funded the Hartzell High School prize giving event to the tune of USD$3000.00 on 2 November 2019. They had certificates, medals, pens and some glass shields made and awarded to over 100 prize winners. The alumni also honoured some long serving teachers as well as other members who have contributed to various areas such as sport and music
